The unexpected knock-on effect of Trump's minerals 'deal of the century'

Donald Trump's stance on climate change has been a source of major contention, exemplified by withdrawing from the Paris Agreement and stifling green initiatives. However, his focus on critical minerals, essential for both defense and green technologies, presents a potential paradox. The surging demand for these minerals, particularly in electric vehicles, is driving a need for their procurement, with the US lagging behind China in supply. This interest, spurred by industry needs and geopolitical considerations, could inadvertently boost the US green technology sector despite Trump's broader climate skepticism.

How A Fossil-Free Military Could Save Europe’s Economy

As Europe boosts military spending due to rising tensions, a more pressing threat emerges: climate collapse. Experts warn that unchecked climate change could cripple global economies. The article argues that true security requires shifting from fossil fuel reliance within the military. Armed forces are significant CO2 emitters, vulnerable to volatile fuel markets and geopolitical instability. A transition towards biofuels, hydrogen, and electrification, starting with logistics and base operations, could enhance security and reduce costs. The core issue is energy dependence itself, exposing supply chains to threats. This requires a dual approach: building a strong and green military simultaneously.

LG’s new air conditioner directs cool air towards people it detects.

LG's new Artcool AI Air conditioner prioritizes efficiency over artistry. While foregoing the previous model's display, it boasts a sleek black mirror finish and utilizes sensors to optimize cooling. The unit detects room layout and occupant position to direct airflow, potentially using mmWave radar for accurate presence detection. This allows the AC to differentiate between people and inanimate objects. It also features an energy-saving mode that activates when a window is open. Users can monitor power usage and set limits via the LG ThinQ app, balancing comfort and energy costs. Pricing and availability details are yet to be announced.
