New York Unveils $1 Billion Sustainable Future Program in FY 2026 Budget
New York governor Kathy Hochul has launched $1 billion Sustainable Future Program in the New York’s FY 2026 Enacted Budget. This is the biggest environmental and agricultural agenda to date. “We have secured a record $1 billion to build a greener, more sustainable New York,” Governor Hochul was quoted as saying. The Sustainable Future Program aims to utilize over $1 billion in decarbonizing the economy of New York. Out of this budget, more than $450 million would be used in reducing emissions through methods such as Low-carbon heating and energy-efficient renovations. More than $250+ million have been allocated for electric school buses, EV charging stations, and NYSERDA’s Charge Ready NY. Additionally, $200 million have been allocated to scale up renewable energy initiatives and thermal energy systems in public institutions.

Green Economy Surges to $5.1 Trillion: LSEG Report Signals Strong Growth Ahead
The London Stock Exchange Group has shared data pointing to the fact that the revenue generated from green products and services has more than doubled in the last decade. It has reached a total of US$5.1 trillion in 2024. This comes as a huge milestone for the global green economy. In its Investing in the Green Economy 2025 report, the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) notes that the rapid shift toward clean energy, along with increasing investments in climate resilience and adaptation, is expected to drive sustained growth in green-focused products and services. Green economy can be defined as products and services with environmental benefits” as per its Green Revenues Data Model. This model measures green revenue exposure of more than 20,000 listed companies from 50 developed and emerging markets.

Study Highlights Gender Disparities in Carbon Emissions
A French study published recently has claimed that men are emitting more greenhouse gases than women. The study, involving 15,000 participants in France, reveals that men emit 26% more greenhouse gases than women. The research attributes this surge to higher car usage and red meat consumption. After adjusting for socioeconomic factors, the difference reduces to 18%, with dietary and transport habits being significant contributors. The research suggests that traditional gender norms linking masculinity with car use and red meat are significant drivers of these discrepancies. These findings underscore the importance of considering gender-specific behaviors in climate policies aimed at reducing emissions.

Australia to achieve 82% renewable electricity by 2030
Australia has backed a rapid transition towards renewable energy. The move comes after a monumental victory in the 2025 federal election, Australia's Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen has reaffirmed the government's commitment to a clean energy transition. The future plans of the administration include an expedition of offshore wind projects as well as expansion of renewable energy deployments. Besides this, Australia will also witness a move to phase out coal power to achieve 82% renewable electricity by 2030. Additionally, the Climate Change Authority is preparing more ambitious emissions reduction targets for 2035, reflecting the government's strengthened mandate for climate action.
